Peter and John leave the Sanhedrin and head straight for the people who share their story. The entire group turns immediately to prayer. As they pray, they also reveal some markers for how we today can biblically make sense of persecution to this day.
Satan enters Judas on the day of the Passover meal, and it looks like Jesus’ ability to avoid death and conspiracy has come to an end. There is a traitor in the group. But certain details of Luke 22:1-13 show us that from God’s vantage point, things are going “exactly as he said.”
How do you interpret the world you see on the news and on social media? Would you say that it is all under the loving control of an all-powerful God? It sure seems like whoever is calling the shots is anything but "good" or "holy" or "right." If we go to the news media for answers to this question, there's a good chance we'll end up angry, anxious, and probably very judgmental. If we go to the Bible for answers, we'll find that things aren't always as they seem.
We all have a story, and every story has an author. The question is, who is the author of your story? Is it you/your parents/your surroundings? Or is there Divine Providence at work in every detail of your story?
Jesus sat down with his disciples and took the time to help them understand what prayer is and isn't, and what God is looking for. Hint: It's keeping the big picture in mind as you pray.
