“O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name! But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us!”
- 1 Chronicles 29:13-14
The stewardship of our finances is a tremendous—and often overlooked—area of our lives in which we can faithfully proclaim the gospel. Giving strengthens our devotion to Christ and frees us to live open-handedly with the gifts God gives us. We trust in Him and His provision instead of our perceived self-sufficiency. As people of faith, we give faithfully and generously. We believe that you cannot outgive God. God doesn't need your money, He wants your heart. Giving of our resources isn't just that, it also opens us up and gives God our most precious possession, our heart.
Be an Ambassador
“…in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and he has committed the message of reconciliation to us. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf: ‘Be reconciled to God.’”
- 2 Corinthians 5:19-20
The idea of being an ambassador is that we represent Christ as message-carriers. That takes on a whole host of forms in the life of a church. It might mean taking a meal to a neighbor, extending forgiveness to someone who’s wronged you, or giving of your time and talent to serve during a Sunday gathering. From parking cars, to leading singing or playing an instrument, helping with children’s ministry, or working with technology, there is room for you to plug in and be an ambassador of Christ at River City.
