Book: Exodus

A Clash of Kingdoms

February 11, 2024
In Acts 8, two kingdoms collide as one kingdom’s representative (Philip) interacts with the other kingdom’s representative (Simon). In the verses that ensue, and Simon apparently switches teams, the question soon becomes, “Where does his allegiance really lie?” Does he actually want Jesus, or does he just want the power to do some cool things?
How would you fill in the blank in this sentence: "If I had ___________, my life would really sing"? We might be tempted to say the Sunday school answer: Jesus! But if the gospel is true, and you have been born again, you already have him! And yet it's pretty rare to hear someone say their life is really singing. So what is it that could make the difference?
Jesus told the people of his day: "I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life." Jesus isn't one of several lights, the lighting section of Menards or Lowes. He's THE Light of the World, which means, if the world with all it's darkness is ever going to have light, it'll only be through him.
